What You’ll Be Doing
Cadmus seeks an Associate Consultant to join our Energy Services business unit, focused on decarbonization of both transportation and buildings. This position is an opportunity to apply engineering skills as a consultant, while also part of a broader approach to accelerate the adoption of energy efficiency, demand response, renewable power generation and other distributed energy resources, including an emphasis on transportation electrification. This position will support our engineering technical services contracts and transportation electrification consulting projects primarily with utilities.
The Energy Services team at Cadmus assists utility clients in quantifying the performance of demand-side management programs, providing actionable insights through engineering studies, analysis, and research, conducting market research, and providing other relevant technical expertise on a variety of clean energy technologies. Associates will be responsible for managing projects, executing research tasks, analyzing the results of market research, and creating written reports on the findings and will support senior staff in the development of proposals to secure future work.
Cadmus is looking for an analytical individual who balances strong technical and communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. The ideal candidate is a problem solver and an analytical leader comfortable working closely with clients to find the right solution. They will have several years of experience in the energy industry and expertise in managing complex projects for clients. They will be able to work collaboratively, manage assigned tasks and projects from start to finish with support from an internal team.
Associates should have a broad professional experience in the energy industry, with a strong engineering foundation. They should also be highly motivated to perform and learn, be able to work collaboratively and independently, manage assigned tasks and projects from start to finish with minimal input from supervisors, and have exceptional written, verbal, and analytical skills. We are looking for candidates with strong research skills who have demonstrated a commitment to decarbonization and energy justice– the right to accessible and affordable energy services for at-risk populations or underserved communities. - Project delivery including ensuring all deliverables in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel formats meet Cadmus standards and exceed client expectations.
- Essential project management activities including budget tracking, invoicing, project planning, staff balancing, and resource management.
- Nurturing and building existing client relationships as a primary point of contact. Providing clear and consistent communications on projects and raising any concerns or issues.
- Active participation in the ideation and execution of business development activities, including cultivating existing client relationships to expand existing work and supporting Cadmus in creating proposals.
- Ongoing communication with Cadmus Energy Services leadership and support teams, including accounting, accounts payable, contracts, and operations regarding the health and status of all projects and tasks.
- Report and present results and findings, as well as actionable recommendations to clients. Stay abreast of industry, regulatory, and market trends; translate that knowledge into actionable strategic advice.
- Analyze collected data using analytical techniques with software tools such as Excel, Python, or R; identifying trends; optimizing weather or production-normalized models; summarizing program events; and identifying impacts on program results.
- Ensure adherence to high quality assurance/control standards in research methods, engineering approaches, and work products for all projects and defend methods and results to expert stakeholders.
- Work independently and collaboratively across Cadmus to deliver high-value analytical solutions to clients.
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM, the social sciences, environmental studies, or a related field with eight (8) to ten (10) years of experience or master’s degree in a related field with six (6) to eight (8) years of experience.
- At least four (4) years of experience managing or leading research or planning projects that include both qualitative and quantitative techniques.
- Industry experience in engineering, market research, transportation electrification, utilities, environmental justice, equity program design and/or evaluation.
- Project management and/or budget management experience, including the ability to manage deadlines across multiple simultaneous projects.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate complicated issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with high attention to detail.
- Desire to grow professionally and take on challenging work assignments.
Desired Qualifications
- MS Degree.
- PE license.
- Experience using whole building simulation software packages such as eQuest, EnergyPlus, Trane Trace and DOE-2.
- Understanding of energy/carbon policy developments, energy markets and wider energy/sustainability issues.
- Field experience in commercial and industrial facilities, including performing site visits to verify energy efficiency measure installation, install metering equipment, and/or collect relevant data.

The minimum starting salary for this position is $85,000. The actual salary may be higher and will be determined by several factors, including relevant work experience, education, skills, and market competitiveness.
