PATH’s Malaria, Neglected Tropical Diseases program is a leader in the effort to end malaria illnesses and deaths, refines and develops tools and approaches, invests in national programs, and builds data to empower national governments to pursue malaria elimination. In close collaboration with PATH’s Digital Health teams, we work directly with national governments in low and middle-income countries to select, adapt and scale appropriate Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for long term use in their country to address health challenges specific to malaria. Our services span the entire software development lifecycle from supporting analysis of digital health needs to the deployment and long-term use of those technologies. The PATH team coordinates closely with government ministries of health, the information and communication technology sector, other global health NGOs and donors to improve the governance, design, development, acquisition, implementation, and sustainability of digital health technologies and approaches to support our malaria control efforts.

PATH has an office established in Myanmar in late 2013. The PATH Myanmar Country Program is currently implementing a broad portfolio of activities on a range of health issues including infectious diseases, nutrition, vaccines and immunization systems strengthening, digital health and sexual and reproductive health.

PATH is seeking a Senior Technical Officer (Malaria) under the Infectious Diseases Portfolio to support the day-to-day management and quality implementation of the PATH’s malaria projects (including but not limited to) – Partnership for Vivax Elimination (PAVE) and U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) Digital Community Health Initiative. He/ she will support Myanmar in accelerating elimination of P.vivax malaria through working National programs and other malaria stakeholders to identify optimal radical cure tool options and strategies; generating and making available high-quality evidence on P.vivax case management; and advancing the development of quality-assured medicines and diagnostics for P.vivax. Senior Technical Officer will also support the malaria stakeholders in Myanmar the expanded use of digital technologies to enable the increased impact of malaria programming down to the community level, where appropriate. This position reports to the Program Manager – Infectious Diseases in PATH, Myanmar.

Responsibilities

• Undertake technical advocacy to national program and other malaria stakeholders to accelerate adoption and scale of new vivax optimized radical cure (ORC) tools (G6PD testing, Tafenoquine etc.,)
• Provide technical assistance, including training, in piloting vivax ORC tools and strategies in the PMI and Global Fund-supported areas
• Oversee the assessment and operational research undertaken to generate information on the feasibility of new ORC tools and strategies to support better use of the current tools or introduction of new ones, including G6PD testing and Tafenoquine
• Support in strengthening malaria surveillance systems including digital and data innovations in relation to malaria.
• Support in developing a national roadmap for transitioning paper-based report to digital reporting of malaria surveillance systems and optimizing the data flow for malaria case management and surveillance
• Communicate, coordinate, negotiate, and manage relationships with national counterparts and key partners in relation to the PATH’s malaria project
• Support the program manager on expanding the malaria portfolio of PATH including advising on country specific policies, strategies and guidelines on the malaria
• Develop, implement, and manage project work plans, track progress, analyze and communicate project progress to the program manager
• Participate in routine in-country, regional and global virtual meetings on malaria, and facilitate decision making on country specific strategies and activities
• Oversee the preparation of project reports, analyses, and presentations
• Work closely with other programs of PATH including finance and administrative staff to provide regular operational support and oversight as required
