Professor of the Practice
Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy (sanford.duke.edu) seeks applicants for a Professor of the Practice position focused on public finance in developing countries and housed in the Duke Center for International Development (DCID). The successful candidate will have both practical international experience and academic credentials, with specialized knowledge in one or more of the following areas: tax policy and administration, budgeting and public financial management, public investment appraisal, sectoral expenditure analysis, and fiscal decentralization.
The Sanford School includes a full-time faculty of 69 and offers an undergraduate major, three professional master’s degree programs (in public policy, environmental policy, and international development policy—the Master in International Development Policy or MIDP), a PhD program, and a joint PhD in environmental policy. DCID, a self-financed unit housed in the Sanford School, is focused on advancing development policy and practice through post-graduate education, mid-career executive training, and policy research. DCID faculty are engaged in advisory and technical assistance services in taxation and public financial management around the world.
Candidates should have a PhD in public policy, economics, or a related discipline. Candidates must also have at least ten years of professional experience that covers teaching, policy research, and technical assistance. Experience working in a government or providing assistance to governments in developing economies is highly valued.
We are particularly interested in candidates with interest and capacity in:
- Teaching mid-career professionals from developing and emerging economies at the graduate level in our professional master’s degree program, especially in the area of international taxation, public financial management, and development finance, and in shorter executive education programs (which could be on campus or overseas) (http://dcid.sanford.duke.edu/);
- Conducting applied research and providing technical assistance to governments of emerging and developing economies and/or international agencies in the area of public finance; and,
- Generating projects, fundraising and management services for DCID and Sanford.
