The World Bank’s active projects in PNG includes more than US$400 million of investments focused on road maintenance and rehabilitation, water supply and sanitation, agriculture, urban youth employment, rural service delivery and local governance, rural communications, the energy sector, health, tourism, and access to finance for small-to-medium enterprises. In addition, the World Bank is providing analytical and advisory support to the government of PNG focused on renewable energy, financial services, strengthening the country’s health systems, debt management and building the capacity of civil society organizations, including women business coalitions.
The successful candidate will support the operational and project teams and report to the Country Manager for Papua New Guinea.
Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 3 year term appointment.
In addition to performing the full range of office support work within a team, a significant part of the job entails provision of some specialized support (e.g. database management, knowledge management, task management, major event/course planning, etc.).
Work typically requires interpreting existing procedures and processes, independently determining which should be used, and applying these appropriately. Work requires extensive coordination with other Bank Group Units and frequent liaison with team members, regardless of location, and external counterparts. Incumbents also provide guidance to less experienced staff.
In addition to the above tasks, incumbents will also:
• Exercise quality enhancement function for project and other documents by ensuring adherence to departmental, VPU and institutional guidelines.
• Participate in developing project/product time lines, using appropriate software.
• Attend meetings, drafts minutes and ensures timely clearance and distribution.
• Serve as an information resource on status of project/products (e.g. procurement, disbursement, audit, trust fund/co-financing, and legal issues) and drafts a variety of standard project-related correspondence.
• Monitor task budget/trust funds for specific projects on behalf of the team.
• Undertake ad hoc inquiries in standard and non-standard databases, retrieves, manipulates and presents data.
• Participate in mission field work as required.
• Mentor less experienced staff.
• Technology and systems knowledge
In addition to excellent knowledge of Microsoft office applications, has solid knowledge and practical experience of technology and/or systems relevant to functional area of assigned responsibilities. Has ability to use appropriate workflow management and planning systems and databases. Demonstrates interest in and informs oneself of emerging systems, technology, and databases which are relevant to the area of responsibility or might become relevant in the future. Has ability to coach less experienced staff on application of relevant technology and systems in the area of assigned responsibility.

Demonstrates knowledge of basic project management principles. Able to independently undertake diverse and complex assignments with minimal supervision and be accountable for outcomes and results. Demonstrates good organizational and time management skills, can plan and prioritize own work and, if it falls in the area of assigned responsibilities, work of internal clients (e.g., manager).
