The Knowledge Management (KM) Specialist supports Global Communities by providing KM technical support to projects and organizational initiatives. This position sits within the Measurement and Evidence for Learning Impact (MELI) team within the Global Programs, Program Accountability and Quality (PQA) department. The purpose of this position will be to provide support to Global Communities’ organizational initiatives and projects within the Global Programs department in KM to ensure all functions related to KM, Communities of Practice, M&E, measurement, research, mobile technologies, data analysis and use, and applied learning are appropriately supported, and efficiencies maximized through effective communication, coordination, and collaboration.
Knowledge Management Technical Support to New and Existing Projects
- Support projects at start-up by sharing knowledge management resources, tools, and guidance found on the Knowledge Management and Collaborating, Learning and Adapting (CLA) SharePoint sites.
- In collaboration with project teams, write, edit, and provide technical reviews to thought leadership, technical and knowledge capture products including Technical/Learning Briefs, Case Studies, etc.
- Provide ongoing guidance to project teams on best practices in document management, utilizing existing Global Communities tools and resources.
- Execute organizational knowledge management processes at project close-out including managing the development of Knowledge Capture at Project Close-Out Plans, ensuring that critical knowledge is transferred back to Global Communities headquarters, and supporting project teams to document and share critical knowledge and learning
Organizational Knowledge Management
- Manage internal knowledge sharing activities including Technical Information Meetings (TIMs) and other activities as identified.
- Manage Communities of Practice at an organizational level by providing technical support to existing or new COPs, managing COP resources, and serving as manager for select COPs as needed.
- Improve the documentation of critical processes related to knowledge management at the project and organizational level.
- Improve the dissemination and accessibility to knowledge management resources and guidance to Global Communities staff.
- Manage resources, tools and information related to organizational knowledge management including the Product Toolkit, the Thought Leadership and Visibility Tracker, the TIM resources on the Global Programs SharePoint site, and the Knowledge Management SharePoint site.
- In collaboration with the IT department, provide technical support to Global Programs in SharePoint content clean-up using document management and SharePoint best practices.
- Promote a culture of inquiry and learning through knowledge in KM and learning and actively contribute to organization-wide learning.
MELI Team Support
- Assist in the documentation, preparation, review, editing, formatting, and submission of various internal and external reports, presentations & deliverables.
- Coordinate and compile relevant content for technical documents, board reports, communications & marketing products.
- Assist with relevant sections in proposal preparation, including literature, analysis of data, compilation of supplemental documentation needed for proposal.
- Conduct literature reviews and desk research as needed.
- Assist in Development Database Library (DDL) tracking and compliance; monitor project compliance in relation to DDL requirements; provide updates of regulations as needed.
- Support various projects and initiatives related to M&E; measurement; research; data & knowledge management; mobile technologies; and applied learning.
- Provide support to the analysis and visualization of data to improve program quality and organizational learning.
- Improve the documentation of critical processes related to MEL and improve the dissemination and accessibility of resources and tools to Global Communities staff.
- Manage resources, tools and information related to MEL on relevant SharePoint sites.
- Serve as units’ point person for various organizational systems (e.g., Concur, Chatter, Salesforce, etc.)
POSITION SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to travel up to 20% annual to remote and/or resource-limited areas within Global Communities’ country portfolios.

- At least 2 years supporting Knowledge Management and MEL activities for an international development organization.
- Strong communication skills including writing, verbal and interpersonal relations and cross-cultural communication experience required.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills, including ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Experience with computerized systems and database management strongly desired.
- Strong writing skills, including editing, and formatting.
- Ability to take initiative, think critically, solve problems, anticipate actions, and to use creative means to complete tasks.
- Ability to work independently and effectively carry out work under pressure in a fast-paced, complex, multi-cultural work environment.
- Ability to work as an integral part of a team, taking guidance and input from a variety of staff.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.

- Undergraduate degree in a related discipline and a minimum of two years of related work experience or a minimum of six years of related work experience.
- Experience and familiarity with SharePoint or other Intranet platforms a plus.
- Understanding and experience with program and/or MERL requirements of US Government donors (i.e., USAID, USDA, PEPFAR, CDC, State Department, Department of Defense) strongly preferred
- Second language abilities in Spanish, French, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, etc. a plus.
