Overview
Street Child is a fast growing development and humanitarian INGO with education, child protection and livelhoods operations in ten countries across Africa and Asia. We work hand in hand with national partners to deliver locally rooted programmes that create the greatest impact for children. Street Child has been running its programme in the highly challenging environment in South Kivu, DR Congo for over 10 years with excellent results, and is now looking to build on this strong platform and growing global EIE / CPiE expertise to expand in the region.
We are seeking an outstanding professional and dynamic self-starter with the ambition and skill to lead the delivery and expansion of Street Child’s programming in DR Congo and Burundi. The successful candidate will be fluent in English and French, with strong programmes / technical experience and excellent networking and relationship-building skills. Key responsibilities
The first goal will be to strategise, initiate and secure new opportunities for expansion, by increasing presence and visibility at the national and sub-national levels, in close collaboration with Street Child’s senior team. The second goal will be to support strong and adaptive delivery of Street Child’s programmes in DR Congo and Burundi.
1. Strategic partnership and expansion in the Great Lakes region
- Mapping and leading the development of strategic partnerships with relevant in-country actors including donors, INGOs and local/national government;
- Mapping and scoping new potential needs / gaps / expansion opportunities in line with SC’s global strategy in DRC and Burundi;
- Representing SC at the highest level in the region, including pro-active participation in relevant coordination mechanisms at national, regional and local level;
- Taking forward the registration of Street Child in Burundi and DRC.
2. Programme Management
Overall responsibility for:
- Excellent programme design and development, building evidence-based, technically robust and value for money programmes together with national partners and communities;
- Excellent programme delivery, line managing the Great Lakes Programme Manager and working with Street Child’s national partner/s and communities to ensure programme delivery is iterative, adaptive and quality-assured;
- Strong programme financial management and overall lead on donor narrative and financial reporting in collaboration with national partners and SCUK teams;
- Proactive engagement with SCUK head office and programmes team on strategic, networking and fundraising activities.
Required technical experience, knowledge and skills
Essential
- Previous experience of and track record in delivering high quality education, EiE and/or child protection programming, with a commitment to and respect for local partnership;
- Demonstrable experience of budget management, grant management and developing / delivering MEL approaches;
- Excellent written and spoken communications in French and English;
- Strong working knowledge of education, child protection and livelihoods in emergencies approaches;
- Strong working knowledge of the DR Congo, Burundi and/or wider Great Lakes context
Highly desirable
- Proven coaching skills and organisational development experience;
- Demonstrable experience of proposal development and/or winning funding;
- Technical specialism in one or more of the following fields will be viewed favourably: education / EIE; child protection / CPiE; livelihoods; gender/inclusion;
- Postgraduate qualifications relating to international development or related field is highly desirable; or equivalent experience

- Strategic thinking, with a strong ‘nose’ for initiating and building partnerships and sourcing funding opportunities;

- Ability to skilfully balance independent working with wider teamwork with both UK and international teams
