ACDI (Agricultural Cooperative Development International) began its work in 1963 with the principal objective to provide expertise and support to cooperative enterprises in developing countries. ACDI merged with VOCA (Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance)
in 1977. The merger combined ACDI’s long-term development approaches and VOCA’s people-to- people volunteer activities. Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA has worked in 146 countries. Total annual revenues for ACDI/VOCA and affiliates are approximately $176
million. It works primarily in agribusiness, food security, enterprise development, financial services, and community development. The organization employs approximately 1,300 people in the U.S. and overseas.
The COO is a critical role and will be responsible for supervising and managing the operational divisions of ACDI/VOCA, as well as all activities when the President is absent. The COO also represents the organization with potential donors and clients, partners,
and with various visiting dignitaries. The COO assists and reports to the President in pursuing responsible and successful growth of the company by:
-Establishing operating policies consistent with the President’s broad policies and objectives and ensuring their execution.
-Evaluating the results of overall operations regularly and systematically and reporting these results to the president.
-Ensuring that an ongoing program evaluation system is in place relative to ACDI/VOCA
divisional business goals and that reports of progress are provided to the President.
Through a respectful, constructive, and energetic style and guided by the mission of ACDI/VOCA, the COO will provide the leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure that ACDI/VOCA has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting
procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow ACDI/VOCA and ensure financial strength and operating efficiency.
Duties include but are not limited to:
-Goal development and achievement of growth strategies.
-Oversight and management of all aspects of the day-to-day operations.
-Short- and long-range planning.
-Ensuring effective information flow and clarity on accountability.
-Ensuring that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood.
-Ensuring legal and contract compliance.
-Master’s degree in International Development or related area or equivalent combination of Bachelor’s degree and work experience in the relevant area required.
-Minimum of 20 years of international development experience, including experience in the field and functioning in a leadership capacity.
-Proven experience in program design/development.
-Demonstrated success in a leadership position within a similar organization whose focus is on the developing world.
-Strong communication and presentation skills that are applicable at all levels.
-Demonstrated successful track record of managing a geographically dispersed portfolio of projects.
