Job description
Since the outbreak of the conflict in Syria in 2011 the humanitarian situation is getting increasingly critical. The years-long conflict has caused the far-reaching destruction of infrastructure. The health care sector is one of the most important and fragile service sectors in Syria. The ongoing hostilities place enormous mental strain on the Syrian population and Internally Displaced People (IDPs). The aim of the programme `Promoting employment in the health sector and mental health and psychosocial support´ (MHPSS) is to improve the access of the local population and IDPs in selected regions of Syria to medical care, psychosocial support and psychotherapeutic treatment.
Your tasks
Assess current managerial and technical (clinical-/or case-) supervision procedures and provide recommendations for supervision structures
Assess capacities of supervisors as well as psychosocial workers and determine areas for capacity development
Identify capacity building support for psychosocial workers and supervisors and implement respective (remote and face-to-face) measures with local and regional stakeholders, ensuring follow up and on-the-job support
Provide technical backstopping to implementing partners during all phases of project implementation
Assist with development of suitable self- and staff care concepts for GIZ’s local implementing partners
Your profile
Master’s degree in psychology, counselling or social work with foucus on psychotherapy or supervision
Many years of work experience in the area of psychosocial support in crisis settings
Experience in working with war-affected patients or in a refugee/IDP context, dealing with trauma on a community level
Sound knowledge of trauma-sensitive approaches, conflict-sensitive monitoring, and curricula development
Experience in organizing trainings and workshops and managing small projects
Work experience in Syria or Arabic countries is an advantage
Fluent English skills, very good Arabic skills
