Basic Education in the Kyrgyz Republic (IBE-KR)
RTI was recently awarded a 5 years
long contract from USAID to advance basic education in the Kyrgyz Republic. The
Improved Basic Education in the Kyrgyz Republic (IBE-KR) project will result in
improved early grade learning outcomes in grades 1-4. IBE-KR will achieve this
goal through the following objectives- Objective 1: Improved instructional
quality in reading, numeracy, and math; Objective 2: Improved formal and
non-formal learning environments; Objective 3: A strengthened education system
for primary education. IBE-KR will work closely with the Ministry of Education
and Science (MOES) to achieve project goals.
The USAID-funded ‘Improving
Basic Education in Kyrgyz Republic’ project is currently accepting applications
for a Kyrgyz-Russian-English
Translator. Successful candidates must possess excellent oral and written
communication skills in English. Position is based in Bishkek, Kyrgyz
The Translator is responsible for providing
translation and interpretation services for all project activities, including
interpretation at meetings, workshops, trainings, etc., as well as translation
of documents from Russian and Kyrgyz into English and vice versa. S/he will
ensure the consistency and the quality of technical translation under the
guidance of the technical team.

will have a focus on early grade education.

communication and ensure that concepts and ideas are accurately shared.
- Make sight
translations when required, prior to full translation.
- Proof-read documents (letters,
reports, success stories, etc.) and presentations in three languages –
English, Russian and Kyrgyz – and make updates to these documents based on
comments and decisions made in meetings.
- Create and continuously update a
multilingual Glossary list including technical terminology.
- Keep up to date on appropriate
terminology for topics related to early grade reading and mathematics in
Russian, Kyrgyz and English.

- Take notes
during meetings and workshops and provide Russian and Kyrgyz and English
versions of these notes as needed, email minutes of meetings to
participants as requested.

Required Education & Experience
degree and 1 years of experience or Bachelors Degree and 3 years of experience,
majoring in languages, preferably with professional qualification from a
recognized institution (including interpretation and editing)
3 years of translation experience within education-related programs or projects
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent working knowledge of written
and spoken Russian, Kyrgyz and English
- Prior experience providing both
interpretation and translation, preferably for education-focused programs.
- Fluent use of relevant programs such
as Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently as well
as in a team context.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Experience working in the education
sector strongly preferred
