Position Title: Senior Project Lead, U.S. Public Health Accompaniment Unit

Leveraging PIH’s experience and lessons learned from our COVID contact tracing collaboration with the state of Massachusetts, and our 30 years of global work in emergency epidemic response and health systems strengthening, PIH has launched a new team to accompany U.S. states, cities and community partners in rapidly scaling up contact tracing and building more equitable and effective public health responses to COVID-19 in the US.
The U.S. Public Health Accompaniment Unit team works to accompany public sector and community partners on the frontlines of the public health response to COVID-19, to address this acute-on-chronic public health crisis, by providing technical assistance and knowledge sharing platforms to accelerate implementation of effective, equitable COVID-19 responses. Our approach to providing technical assistance to different public sector and community partners in the United States includes providing expertise and advice on design and implementation, incorporating an equity lens into execution, and creating a community of partners across the US to share best practices and challenges in order to fortify efforts amidst the national response to COVID-19.
The Senior Project Lead will be responsible for leading PIH’s technical advising and implementation accompaniment efforts in Immokalee, Florida. The Senior Project Lead will serve as the primary liaison with PIH’s partner agency (e.g., Department of Health, Coalition of Immokalee Workers, community organizations) in the development of effective equitable public health responses to COVID-19, including community health worker programs and other associated areas of work.
- Develop and implement PIH’s technical advising support to Immokalee on emergency epidemic response and preparedness, including design and implementation of contact tracing initiatives
- Provide strategic leadership, administrative and managerial oversight and monitoring of workstreams and priority initiatives identified together with local partners; workstreams may include: workforce development and management; technology and data integration; care resource coordination; communications & community engagement; response governance and coordination
- Manage Immokalee Project Manager(s) in addition to other junior staff and/or volunteers; provide team with regular coaching, feedback and mentorship
- Support the community health program at HCN as needed, including with recruitment, supervision/mentorship, and training sessions
- Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders in relevant government agencies, and with other implementing and technical partners
- Serve as spokesperson for respective projects in both internal and external exchanges
- Interface with key stakeholders across all partnerships to ensure alignment with project objectives and budget; lead meetings among the project partners and stakeholders
- Continually identify new opportunities together with the Department of Health for PIH to add value and maximize impact with our advising support
- Manage communication channels and ensure continuity and transparency across stakeholders
- Manage recruitment and onboarding of project staff as needed
- Evaluate project performance using appropriate KPIs and project metrics
- Contribute learnings and insights from project site to broader US Public Health Accompaniment Unit resource library and learning collaborative
- Provide regular reports on program and work progress to PIH leadership team, and liaise across other PIH USPHAU teams
- Supervise the implementation team throughout all project phases
- Oversee project management plan and approve project documents to support implementation
- Oversee project deliverables, including reports and other materials
- Ability to work in-person in Immokalee, Florida
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in relevant fields related to public health desirable
- 8-10 years of experience in public health program development and implementation with a preference for experience working with community health workers
- Proven experience crafting and executing strategy for innovative initiatives
- Experience with community health programs either in the U.S. or abroad strongly preferred
- Familiarity with U.S. public health systems preferred
- Demonstrated experience in effectively managing and prioritizing a large number of projects simultaneously in a complex and fast-paced organization and setting
- Excellent strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Exemplary interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with staff and leadership across a diverse range of departments and organizations
- Keen understanding of working within the public sector
- Prior budget management experience
- Experience managing projects that involve multiple stakeholders
- Experience supervising teams in complex environments
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice and health equity
- Fluency in Spanish or Creole a plus
