Function of the Position:
The Senior Environmental Specialist will support the scoping and design of an innovative corporate social investment program focused on environmental conservation and youth empowerment in the Gulf Coast. S/he will have deep experience in the Gulf Coast region (specifically the coastal areas of Louisiana, Texas, Alabama) and a strong network of contacts among local actors in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. S/he will have experience designing and managing projects focused on coastal conservation, climate change adaptation/mitigation, youth empowerment, innovation, and/or entrepreneurship. At the close of this scoping assignment, there is a potential opportunity for the Specialist to continue on with DAI to lead implementation of the program, should the parties mutually agree it’s a good fit.
- Lead scoping of local ecosystem for environmental issues and youth empowerment, including relevant initiatives, programs, institutions, and stakeholders in alignment with the client company’s objectives. The candidate must be willing to travel within the region for meetings with local stakeholders and communicate recommendations/findings to client.
- Lead strategy formulation and program design in collaboration with the client and DAI home office staff, including development of a multi-year strategic vision, project start-up phase, resource requirements, and target impact metrics
- Working together with the DAI Project Director based at Headquarters, maintain high quality client management and report program progress and results
- Actively contribute to set-up of the program in its early formation, including potentially bringing on new team members, managing local subcontractors, contributing to financial management, and overseeing execution of program operations
Master’s degree preferred, ideally in coastal conservation, environmental management, climate change adaptation/mitigation, youth empowerment, innovation, and/or entrepreneurship. Bachelor’s Degree required.
Significant professional work experience, including project design and management experience
Ability to work independently and be proactive while maintaining a strong working relationship with home office staff. Excellent team working and collaboration abilities
Strong communication and client management abilities
Ability to work in a fast paced, multicultural, high volume, multi-stakeholder environment
Experience in the US Gulf Coast region and familiarity with local stakeholders
