As the foundation’s Senior Data Architect, you are a key member of our newly formed Global Data and Analytics team responsible for developing, maintaining and leveraging our enterprise data model. We are looking for a thought leader who brings advanced skills in data modeling and data architecture. You will have advanced knowledge of the end-to-end data lifecycle, strong interpersonal skills, the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions, and illicit data requirements from business conversations and translate into our enterprise data model. The Senior Data Architect will also bring experience with structured and unstructured data to help take us into the world of Big Data and machine learning.-Performing logical and physical data modeling, maintaining and leveraging enterprise data model-Developing, validating and communicating data models for various types of data stores-Design and document enterprise data flows-Oversee the building of robust ETL and other integrations using Talend and/or Dell Boomi.-Collaborate with stakeholders, project and delivery teams to ensure that solutions follow data-related standards and meet business needs-Help implement and maintain new data-related technology solutions-Analyze data-related systems integration opportunities and challenges; proposing and communicating solutions-Provide technical and non-technical guidance to the data team and project teams-Influence/recommend data goverance policies/processes-Work closely with the Microstrategy members of the team to ensure data model is designed for optimal reporting-Ensure that the data model is extensible, scalable with future customer needs in mind; be thinking of the big picture all the time-Lead the development of the Enterprise Data Architecture, including database, data warehouse, metadata and reference and master data design and structure, real-time data integration and database tools to deliver top-notch data management-Development and use of organization standards for data definitions, data management, warehouse design and development-Work with distributed systems, Big Data, Relational, and NoSQL technologies to process and deliver data as needed to support our Business Intelligence initiatives.-Ensuring solution designs address performance requirements, availability, integrity, security, scalability challenges as well as business functional requirements
-A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information systems or other related field; or equivalent work experience.-Excellent communication skills, soft skills, consulting skills-Ability to authentically and effectively communicate with various stakeholders across business and GDT.-Hands on data modeling of physical, conceptual and logical data models using ER Studio, Erwin or other tools-Good understanding of how reporting or visualization tools leverage data model-Ability to evaluate and assess existing legacy data assets with an eye on modernization and simplification.-Ability to lead software evaluations including RFP development, capabilities assessment, formal scoring models, and delivery of executive presentations supporting a final directional recommendations-Experience developing, validating and communicating data models for various types of data stores-Developing, validating and communicating data models for various types of data stores-Deep knowledge of RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and NoSQL databases such as HBase, CouchBase, Vertica, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra.As part of our standard hiring process for new employees, employment with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will be contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
