The Department of Surgery provides comprehensive and sub-specialty care in the areas of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dentistry, General Surgery, Breast Surgery, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery. The position is expected to start working from July 2018.
The Programme Director for Dental Hygiene will undertake primary responsibility for the operation and administration of the recently established Associate of Science in Dental Hygiene (ASDH) programme. This will be a 2 years position, with renewal on mutually agreeable terms.
Specifically you will be responsible for:
Interact with faculty and staff of AKU as required to meet the needs of the programme and its students.
Train, supervise, and mentor interns (ASDH graduates) in order to create a sustainable model of education.
Planning and implementation of curriculum, daily operations of the programme, development of programme budgets and operation within those budgets.
Classroom and clinical teaching, academic advising, involvement in admissions and promotions processes, and any other related responsibilities as deemed appropriate.
Active participant on teams across the University, working toward achieving the vision, mission and goals of AKU broadly, and of the dental hygiene programme more specifically.
Minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene or another related field. Preferrably have completed a Masters and/or Doctorate degree.
Have completed dental hygiene training at an accredited dental hygiene programme.
Hold a current practice permit/registration within their jurisdiction and have practiced clinical dental hygiene for a minimum of 5 years.
Candidates with a combination of equivalent education and teaching and/or administrative experience within an accredited dental hygiene programme may be considered and are encouraged to apply.
Have previous experience as a Programme Director or with supervision of faculty and/or staff.
Be fluent and proficient in English – this is the language of instruction at AKU.
Demonstrate strong attention to details as well as excellent management and communication skills.
Preference will be given to candidates who have prior dental hygiene teaching experience.
