The Police and Training Specialist will be responsible for contributing to curriculum development and conducting training with direct beneficiaries on community policing, crime and violence prevention, citizen engagement, crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED), problem-oriented policing, and other relevant topics. This position will require travel to Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, and La Ceiba.
- Travel to and conduct business in any of the targeted project areas.
- Successfully forge collaborative partnerships with key community and municipal stakeholders and help to coordinate relationships with community leaders.
- Conduct direct beneficiary training and train-the-trainer sessions.
- Participate in the development of training curriculum.
- Support the development of approaches to effective training, monitoring, and coaching.
- Establish and maintain regular policy and technical dialogue with the respective government counterparts and other relevant NGO agencies with respect to crime and violence prevention.
- Provide feedback to curriculum developers to further enhancement of curriculum and lesson plans as related to the delivery of the materials (how usable lesson plans are, easy to follow, etc.).
- Coordinate with RTI home office staff to ensure a regular influx of new ideas, innovations, and lessons learned. – Collaborate with a variety of community- and municipal-level stakeholders, as well as with partners from the state and federal governments
- Meet various other administrative and reporting responsibilities of the program.
- Attend community meetings after hours and on weekends
Coordinate and provide support to crime and violence prevention activities involving the Honduran National Police.
Skills & Abilities
- An understanding of and commitment to RTI’s mission and values
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of experience in a law enforcement leadership position responsible for developing, managing, and/or implementing police training, preferably in Honduras.
- Minimum of three years of experience working as a trainer.
- Experience in performing training needs assessments, developing corresponding training programs, coordinating logistics for training participants, evaluating training, and evaluating the impact of training on skills acquisition. – Experience working successfully with government agencies, networks of vocational training associations, employers’ organizations, and trade unions or comparable entities.
- Ability to maintain working relationships with all project stakeholders and engage in coalition-building to advance project objectives.
- Excellent personal skills in relating with field and project personnel.
- Strong demonstrated problem-solving skills and commitment to meeting deadlines, achieving targets, and collaboration on the delivery of required reports.
- Willingness to work in the regional office for which candidate is applying (Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, or La Ceiba).
- Fluency in Spanish (Bilingual English proficiency is preferred).
- Willingness to travel to all regions of Honduras for project activities.
- Must have own mode of transportation (expenses reimbursed). – Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
