The Millennium Challenge Corporation is partnering with Benin through a $375 million grant, or compact, designed to transform the West African country’s power sector. The compact aims to strengthen the national utility, attract private sector investment, and fund infrastructure investments in electric generation and distribution as well as off-grid electrification for poor and unserved households. The projects overseen by the Compact are funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a U.S. government agency focused on assisting countries dedicated to good governance, economic freedom, and investments in people. For a summary of the proposed compact’s scope and project composition, please see the following link: https://www.mcc.gov/pages/docs/doc/fact-sheet061715-benin-power-compact.
