Responsible for the Foundation’s overall enterprise technology architecture by translating vision into action and partnering with IT delivery teams to develop and drive the overall business and IT strategy and roadmaps. Evangelize the enterprise architecture process, its outcome and ongoing results. Partner with key stakeholders to understand the business strategic goals/objectives and create and maintain the strategic technology architecture roadmaps providing a 3-5 year view for the business and IT to plan against. Ensure the business strategic goals/objectives are aligned with decisions related to technical capabilities. Provide leadership for foundation enterprise technology needs such as application and technology portfolio rationalization, service-oriented architecture, and Cloud strategy. Ensure existing IT assets are identified, stewarded and leveraged across the enterprise. Analyze technology industry and market trends, and determine their potential impact on the enterpriseGeneral Enterprise Architect Duties and Resonsibilities:• Translate strategic requirements into usable enterprise architecture, including enterprise models, associated metamodels, common business and technology vocabulary, and taxonomies, which will then be used to guide enterprise solution development and achieve consistency of information assets across the application portfolio.• Determine the strategic and tactical enterprise goals that provide traceability through the organization and are mapped to key success metrics to provide ongoing governance oversight.• Ensure existing IT assets are identified, stewarded and leveraged across the enterprise.• Evangelize the enterprise architecture process, its outcome and ongoing results.• Develop patterns, standards and guidelines necessary to uphold the principles and maintain integrity of the enterprise architecture.• Participate in key project design reviews as part of the methodology process to ensure application designs adhere to enterprise architecture guidelines.• Analyze technology industry and market trends, and determine their potential impact on the enterprise.• Partner with IT Service Delivery Teams and key stakeholders to operationalize the strategic architecture roadmaps providing a 3 -5 year view for the enterprise to plan against.Specific Technology Architect Duties and Responsibilities:• Develop a technology architecture strategy based on a situational awareness of various enterprise scenarios and motivations.• Drive the development of a business led comprehensive roadmap for advancing the Foundation (i.e. the future vision); this is in concert and coordination with SDT roadmap ownership, leading from a relationship and specific technology/product/process perspective to assist and inform enterprise level road mapping.• Focus on strategic and operational effectiveness by using a pragmatic approach that resonates with technology leaders. • Ensure the technology architecture function demonstrates value through designing and employing action oriented artifacts to identify opportunities, drive decision making and implement long term and viable enterprise solutions.•
– 10+ years of broad IT experience with demonstrated progression of responsibilities.• 10+ years’ management or leadership experience (preferable in IT) including people and budget responsibility.Bachelor’s degree with 10-12 years of experience plus Enterprise Architect and/or Solution Architect certification.Preferred: MBA with experience in at least two IT disciplines in a client server or service-oriented architecture (SOA) environment, including technical architecture, network design, application development, middleware, servers and storage, database management, and operations.• Experienced with all aspects of technology architecture including application, data, security, infrastructure and with program/projects involving complex integration of disparate types of technologies/platforms.• Previous experience managing vendor relationships (including evaluating new RFP’s, working with vendors on strategies and leveraging new tools or processes that vendors have implemented).• Hands-on experience working with data warehouses and business intelligence implementations including architecture design, ETL, data migrations and archival.• Demonstrated experience in physical, conceptual and logical data modeling.• Hands-on experience assessing how technology is, or will be, used and the implication on people, processes and information.• Prior cloud experience strongly desired, particularly in an enterprise setting• Strong working knowledge of industry, enterprise and SOA standards, design patterns, best practices and data integration• Strong understanding of Web service (SOAP or REST concepts)• Prior experience designing fault tolerant (ideally self-healing) and highly scalable systems including leveraging emerging.• Experience with secure coding principles and solid understanding of secure systems best practices.• Familiar with Big Data concepts and best practices.• Familiarity with the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBOK) a plus.As part of our standard hiring process for new employees, employment with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will be contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
