The goal of the Global Development Program (GDP) is to increase opportunities for people in the developing world to lift themselves out of hunger and poverty and to help deliver targeted healthcare solutions in these regions. Our strategies focus on Polio, Agriculture Development, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, Financial Services for the Poor, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, Family Planning and Nutrition. These strategies are supported by functional teams that focus on Vaccine Delivery and Integrated Delivery. GDP also has Special Initiatives that focus Urban Poverty, Emergency Relief, Global Libraries and Value for the Money.
The Director of Strategy, Data and Analytics focuses on strengthening the use of data and analytics to inform decision making within Global Development, the application of new data technologies, the development of standards and platforms to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our data investments, supports the President, Global Development Program to manage the GD portfolio, and is a key member of the Global Development Leadership Team.GD Data and Analytics• Infuse rigor and innovative thinking in the use of data and analytics to support sound strategy development and management in Global Development, and the foundation more broadly; push and challenge the teams to examine strategic choices through new frameworks; bring new ideas to annual strategy review and planning processes• Provide leadership and oversight of the data and analytics function to support data driven decisions for program and function strategies on behalf of the Global Development division• Develop and adapt vision for unit; manage and develop the Data and Analytics staff. Develop an approach for using Big Data to support Global Development efforts. • Build on two focal areas for Data and Analytics: cost effectiveness and geospatial data and analysis. • Establish and maintain external partnerships and resources in order to facilitate deeper analysis in support of programCross-Foundation Integration and Collaboration on Data and Analytics• Manage relationship with other Directors engaged in Data and Analytics including GH SPM, GPA SPM, DPAF and GH Quantitative Sciences.• Work closely with the GD Chief of Staff, GD PCFO and GD HRBP to support GD operations and planning.• Ensure efficient use of team’s financial and human resources to meet data & analytical needs including an investment strategy inclusive of key grants and contracts.Leadership support for the President, Global Development• Develop approaches to support GD portfolio level trade-offs and strategy. • Serve as the liaison to the Foundation-wide Strategy Team
– A minimum of 15 years with deep engagement in development of analytical techniques for impact estimation, cost effectiveness, geospatial analytics and big data.• Advanced degree (at least a Masters, preferably PhD) in data science, computational modeling, geospatial analysis or a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience• Demonstrated experience in growing a team and designing the vision for a service unit to respond to needs of various business units within a complex organization• Demonstrated success in leadership roles developing and managing complex and highly dynamic organizations to work collaboratively towards a common vision• Experience in managing and developing staff in a complex environment with technical members• Proven strength in structured problem solving and strategic business planning, with the ability to synthesize disparate information and critically analyze any situation• Strong quantitative and financial knowledge to understand, explain, and conceptualize analyses using global development/health statistical information to inform strategic planning• Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships and alliances inside and outside of the organization and work in a politically demanding environment• Experience working for a global health or development organization desired• Excellent oral and written communicator, always seeking information pertinent to the issues being dealt with in the strategy, on the team or across the foundation• Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team effort• A deep commitment to the overall mission of the foundation, its programs, and an approach consistent with the foundation’s guiding principles.
