Job Summary/General Purpose of Job
Accountable for directing, planning, and execution of high-potential book publishing projects to drive internal and external resources to achieve revenue and profitability goals.
Principal Duties/Job Responsibilities
Develops and communicates detailed marketing campaigns directly with editors and authors – from presentation through execution for assigned titles.
Develops, deploys, monitors, and where necessary, take corrective actions on annual marketing plans to achieve optimal, positive exposure to titles and drive revenues.
Effectively evaluates and optimizes the full suite of available marketing strategies and tactics, making plans based on the goals of the title.
Creates or causes the creation of marketing campaigns and programs that elicit demand and sales for titles offered through the Association.
Functions as the book marketing planning and management lead to develop and implement effective, measurable marketing plans and measurable campaigns for the Association’s books.
Accountable for establishing and/or sun setting the Association’s publishing brands based upon business opportunities and sales within the brand.
Collaborates with section leaders and authors on proposed books and titles to ensure that marketing can support both the section’s objectives and can optimize revenue delivery from the proposed title.
Establishes and reports on sound metrics to measure increased awareness and market share.
Proactively establishes relationships with vendors and sales representatives to ensure appropriate distribution of the Association’s books based upon favorable business terms and conditions, revenue generation opportunities, performance guarantees, and the provision of exceptional customer service. Recommends changes in service providers/vendors as necessary.
Provides leadership, direction, coaching, counseling, feedback, and where necessary, applies discipline to and through assigned staff members.
Performs other related duties as required.
Basic Qualifications & Interests
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, or journalism.
At least ten years’ experience in marketing of consumer products or content-related products, which must have including book publishing, including leadership roles involving integrated marketing responsibilities (digital, advertising, email, social media, direct marketing, etc.).
At least three years’ experience supervising a team which must have included leading, directing, coaching, counseling, and providing performance feedback.
Preferred Qualifications & Interests
Possession of an advanced degree.
Previous experience in marketing for a major publishing function within a not-for-profit business setting.
