Provides leadership, direction, planning and management of WWF’s gift planning program which generates more than $20 million in unrestricted revenue annually. Develops and directs gift planning fundraising strategies through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities that result in bequests, life income arrangements, and other current and deferred planned gifts. Develops and implements expense budget, internal systems and policies and procedures for handling all aspects of the program.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Creates annual and long-term plans and fundraising goals for gift planning program, focusing on increasing the number of realized gifts, intentions and prospects. Designs, directs, and oversees cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for gift planning donors and prospects including gift processing, acknowledgements, recognition initiatives, personal visits, events and other activities.
Manages gift planning budget and supervises appropriate staff, including coordination and training of new staff, outlining and communication of job requirements and expectations, and review and evaluation of quality of work.
Collaborates and confers with CFO, other finance and accounting staff and General Counsel’s staff to ensure accuracy and fulfillment of all technical, financial, and legal aspects of planned giving operations, especially in matters related to all planned gift marketing, bequest administration, charitable gift annuities, pooled income fund, charitable remainder trusts, state registration, real estate gifts, and supporting organizations. Activates Gift Acceptance Committee and confers with external planned giving counsel as needed.
Works collaboratively with the Strategic and Financial Analysis group to analyze marketing results, create metrics, identify trends and build models to better target specific audiences for marketing efforts and to project future planned giving revenue. Develops tools to help track performance of all gift planning activities including marketing and fundraising results.
Working with Membership Marketing staff, directs and evaluates planned giving marketing strategies and efforts through a comprehensive direct mail program to encourage bequests, gift annuities, trusts and other gift plans. In addition to direct mail, plans ads, articles as well as individualized proposals and illustrations for prospects.
Directs the work of Gift Planning Officers to qualify new leads and to move them through appropriate stages of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Works with Annual and Major Gift staff as needed to assist in qualification and cultivation of planned giving inquiries.
Coordinates gift planning training for development staff with particular focus on cross-training of Annual and Major Gifts staff to broaden donors’ giving options, maximize revenue and enhance donor relations. Raises awareness of gift planning opportunities among all WWF staff and volunteers.
Directly supervises Trust and Estates Administrator , Gift Planning Officers and Gift Planning Coordinator.
May oversee a personal portfolio of donors and prospects, balanced with program management duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Internal Relationships: Interacts regularly with staff across Development, particularly with Annual Giving and Regional Philanthropy, Travel, Events, and other development staff. Works with Finance, Accounting and Fundraising Operations staff, General Counsel’s office, Membership Marketing, Marketing staff, Information Technology staff and program staff to enhance fundraising efforts.
External Relationships: Develops relationships and maintains regular contact with qualified planned giving donors, prospects and key volunteers. Works with planned giving and marketing consultants, supporting allied professionals, external legal advisor, and life income fiduciary administrators.
