The U.S. Clean Air team envisions a world in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected to the environmental challenges we face and are engaged in creating durable, equitable solutions. We are dedicated to achieving that vision in our work, helping achieve clean air for all. The U.S. Clean Air team works primarily out of the Washington, D.C., and Boulder, CO offices.
Members of the U.S. Clean Air team contribute meaningfully to the team’s work securing clean air and climate protections. The Research Analyst will be a key team member, working specifically with on issues of climate risk, conducting research and analysis on a wide variety of environmental and climate topics. The position will report to EDF’s Lead Counsel and Director of Climate Risk Strategies. Research analysts work in a high-intensity, fast-paced, multi-disciplinary setting to formulate and implement strategies, laws, and policies.
Tasks may include but are not limited to:
- Conduct factual research on finance, energy, and climate actions.
- Contribute to evidence and analysis underpinning litigation and administrative comments.
- Support public and working group convenings.
- Draft public-facing documents such as fact sheets and blog posts about legal issues.
- Support EDF’s engagement in public hearings before government agencies.
- Provide other support to the team’s policy and advocacy efforts.
- Support environmental justice initiatives, particularly those related to addressing the disparate impacts of climate change.
- Participates in advancing EDF DEI goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.
- Apply excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills in preparing correspondence and reports, responding to requests for information, and helping to coordinate activities among staff members.
- Build relationships and regularly consult with public agencies, funders, researchers, academics, NGOs, industry representatives, public officials, and other partners.
- Participate in developing interim grant reports; write up project results as papers for managers, and, possibly, for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience or Master’s degree in relevant field and related work experience in economics, financial analysis, energy regulation, environmental science, policy analysis, environmental advocacy or related fields;
- Interest and/or experience with financial regulators, such as the SEC, Fed. Reserve, or Treasury Department;
- Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Interest and/or experience with energy regulation, such as FERC or DOE;
- Strong quantitative analysis skills and experience in performing rigorous analyses;
- Interest and/or experience in supporting multi-party convenings and stakeholder events;
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines;
- Able to prioritize and be flexible;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Computer proficiency, experience with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint; and
- Ability to make sound decisions on legal, financial, scientific issues.
