Chemonics seeks a qualified business and market system director for USAID’s anticipated Feed the Future Knowledge-Based Integrated Sustainable Agriculture and Nutrition II Project (KISAN II). KISAN II aims to substantially reduce poverty and hunger by improving agricultural productivity; strengthening the competitiveness, resilience, and inclusiveness of market systems; enhancing the enabling environment; increasing the resilience of vulnerable communities through business literacy; and applying collaboration, learning, and adaptation methodology to ensure flexible, results-driven programming. Oversee implementation of activities under Component 2 to strengthen the competitiveness, resilience, and inclusiveness of selected agricultural market systems
Advise project staff, partners, and government of Nepal staff on market system development in target districts
Develop a portfolio of activities in Feed the Future zones of influence to facilitate strengthening of target market systems and value chains
Work with project staff to develop market systems strengthening policy reforms
Advise on incorporating crosscutting issues like climate change, nutrition, gender equality and
social inclusion, access to finance, etc. to build stronger market systems in Nepal
Work with the Collaborative Learning and Adaptation Team to create literature on market systems development in Nepal
Master’s in business administration or a master’s degree in one of the agricultural sciences, such as agronomy, agriculture economics, or horticulture, preferred
- Minimum seven years of experience with a master’s degree, or 10 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, in developing and implementing agriculture value chains
- Demonstrated experience in business and value chains strengthening (especially for rice, maize, lentil, and high-value commodities)
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluent written and spoken English required; proficient Nepali preferred
