Position Title: Biomedical Equipment Specialist
Reports to: Associate Director of Facilities

Position Overview:
The Clinical Operations Department is responsible for providing technical support to Partners In Health (PIH) sites with operational and programmatic guidance in the areas of supply chain, logistics, IT, Data management, diagnostics, pharmacy, systems, biomedical equipment and infrastructure.
The Biomedical Equipment Specialist would be a member of the Clinical Operations Team and will focus on supporting and improving all aspects of biomedical equipment management, including planning, budgeting, procurement, training and skill development, and maintenance and repair. The Biomedical Equipment Specialist will work closely with PIH’s Cross Site Biomed Lead.
Responsibilities:
Planning and Budgeting – 20%
- Work with Cross Site Biomed Lead, care delivery site teams, and technical advisors on building out equipment specifications and standardization of new biomedical equipment
- Support PIH sites during the annual and multi-year planning and budgeting process for biomed work including maintenance, spare parts, accessories, service contracts, and new equipment
- Provide technical input to grant applications related to biomedical equipment
Equipment Management and Maintenance – 50%
- Act as point of contact for facilities and biomed leads at sites, responding to needs related to equipment requests, parts requests, and repairs in coordination with technical experts, service providers, and PIH’s Cross Site Biomed Lead
- Develop maintenance plans for new and existing equipment
- Assist supply chain team in sourcing parts, accessories and equipment
- Develop list of spare parts, accessories, and consumables for equipment and work with supply chain team to develop systems for maintaining stock levels of key items.
- For new and existing equipment, negotiate service contracts and work with vendors and manufacturers to establish opportunities for technical assistance and training
- Support the Cross Site Biomed Lead as required
- Provide support to facilities leads when required
Capacity Building – 30%
- Support facilities and biomed team members at care delivery sites by providing technical assistance and facilitate cross-site collaboration and knowledge sharing
- Identify opportunities for training, capacity building, and continuing education on the management, maintenance, and repair of equipment
- Source, organize and share equipment technical and service manuals and associated training resources
Qualifications
Required:
- Associates degree or vocational degree in biomedical equipment technology, engineering technology or a related field
- At least two years of relevant experience in biomedical equipment technology or a related field
- Ability to manage multiple priorities to meet short and long-term goals
- Service-oriented mindset and strong communication skills
- Record of implementing effective systems and process improvements
- Ability to work well with a diverse team, honoring the concerns and priorities of staff in field sites
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in biomedical equipment technology or biomedical equipment engineering
- Technical experience and understanding biomedical or facilities-related equipment, such as patient monitors, anesthesia machines, medical gas systems, autoclaves
- Experience coordinating external partners, outsourcing work, overseeing contracts, networking for technical support
- Experience designing equipment maintenance plans or managing teams responsible for equipment maintenance
- Experience working in developing countries
- Language familiarity with French, Haitian Creole, and/or Spanish
