General Purpose of Job
Based in D.C., leads regional division for overseas programs. Working closely with the programs oversight bodies, is responsible for all aspects of the organizations work in the region and has overall responsibility for management of headquarters-based and field-based staff, including supervision of headquarters staff, and of field-based regional or country directors as appropriate. Develops and is responsible for implementing the strategic vision in the region; identifies and obtains funding for programs; engages in donor relations; oversees preparation of funding proposals and budgets, implementation of programs and compliance with programmatic and financial requirements; coordinates activities and programs with other entities working in the field; develops/implements activities to publicize work in the region.
Doctoral Degree (JD, PhD)
Travel to the region required. J.D. and 7 years relevant experience or masters degree and 10 years relevant experience required, including experience in international program development. Experience in USG-funded programs desired; requires excellent written and oral communication skills, knowledge of recent developments in the region of responsibility, and experience managing programs and staff. Proficiency in foreign language(s) preferred and in some cases required.
Extensive overseas travel, often to overseas countries lacking in amenities.
